Rising damp

If the damp proof course (DPC) of a building is compromised, moisture will rise up from the ground and creep up masonry and brickwork. Older London properties are more likely to have DPC issues, which can be caused by ground subsidence or simple wear and tear on bitumen-based DPC that deteriorates over many decades. We can inject a DPC foam into cavity walls to provide an impenetrable barrier that stops damp in its tracks.

Condensation

There are a number of causes of condensation; when warm air meets cold air, droplets of water can form on hard surfaces like windows and walls. Human behaviour is another cause of condensation; drying damp clothing indoors makes the air moist, while running a hot bath is another cause of excessive moisture, as is cooking without using the canopy extractor. Lack of ventilation increases the chance of condensation forming on interior surfaces and that can lead to mould.

Penetrating damp

Damp that enters a building via the roof or external walls is known as penetrating damp, which is a common problem in London homes. Basement tanking & waterproofing

There are two main methods to waterproof below-ground living space; basement tanking, which involves the removal of damp plaster, preparing the substrate and applying a waterproof render. The other method is to install a cavity drainage system; fitting a studded membrane to walls, ceilings and floors to create a space for water to be drained to a sump area where it is then pumped to drainage points. At London Damp Specialists, we offer 3 levels of damp survey; level 1 involves a thorough inspection of walls, floors and ceilings, looking for signs of damp and mould, while level 2 includes level 1, plus a detailed inspection of the roof and attic and all timber sections. Level 3 includes everything in levels 1 & 2, along with drone imagery, borescope camera and humidity testing, as well as ventilation flow testing.

We send a PCA-certified damp surveyor to your home, where the professional can carry out a detailed inspection. This enables us to source the cause of the damp issues, take measurement and record observations.

Once the inspection is completed, we then send you a detailed quote, with no hidden extras and this quote is free from obligation. If you have any queries, we are always happy to answer them. We also send you a detailed report, complete with images.

Commencement of work

Once an agreement has been reached, our damp-proofing team carry out the work according to the agreed timeline and to our high standards, with minimum inconvenience to you.

Payment upon completion

The final step in the process; once the work is completed and your home is dry and you are happy with the results, payment is made.
